Floyd L. Wormley, Jr.
As vice provost of research, Dr. Wormley works with academic deans and faculty to strengthen the infrastructure supporting research and creative activities. He enhances the engagement of undergraduate student researchers to magnify the impact of research on TCU’s mission of teaching and scholarship. He has extensive experience as an active researcher and service on grant panels. Since joining TCU in 2019, he has more than doubled TCU’s external research expenditures, revised academic program review and new program submission processes, and expanded the offices of Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance. He was named Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs in 2024. He is also the dean of graduate studies at TCU.
Dr. Wormley earned a B.S. in cellular and molecular biology from Tulane University and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in microbiology/immunology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He completed postdoctoral training in infectious diseases at Duke University Medical Center. He is a Fulbright Scholar, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, and a Fellow for the American Academy of Microbiology. Prior to TCU, Dr. Wormley served at the University of Texas at San Antonio as associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies for the College of Sciences; associate program director for the UTSA Research Centers in Minority Institutions Program; Associate Director of the South Texas Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, and interim chair of the Department of Physics & Astronomy.
