D2L Learning Management System

We will continue with an updated version of D2L Brightspace with a seven-year contract. This decision requires no migration or additional work on anyone’s part. D2L developed several functions as a direct response to our feedback and requests, including easier site navigation and a syllabus module that provides data on syllabus usage and automatically populates the course calendar tool. Additional features include Accessibility+, Lumi AI, and more. Yes, you may have to learn a few new ways to do things, but it is not a complete overhaul into a new system.

Late December 2025

  • Updates to the D2L home and course page navigation bar menu options will be made before winter break. Faculty will not lose access or functionality. The most utilized tools will remain on the Nav Bars, and the less frequently used tools (i.e., Glossary, FAQ) can still be found under the Course Admin item in the Nav Bar, creating a cleaner, less cluttered navigational menu.

January 2026

  • New Content Experience (NCE) will be switched on in all courses in the LMS. The NCE provides an easier-to-use, cleaner layout that organizes material into units, pages and lessons rather than folders and lists.
  • The new syllabus module will become active.

January 7 & 8

  • Teach & Tech Pop-Up. Jan, 7 and 8, Rees-Jones Hall Global Seminar Room, 10am-3pm, come and go. A flexible, come-and-go space where faculty can prepare for the spring semester. Includes hands-on stations for quick help with D2L, syllabi, AI, and student engagement, and workshops on topics such as D2L, AI in teaching, Core Curriculum, and Student Access and Accommodations. Representatives from D2L Brightspace and the Koehler Center will lead the workshops. Click here for more information.

Spring 2026

  • Workshops will be offered by the Koehler Center throughout the spring semester covering the New Content Experience, syllabus tool, Creator+, H5P, course widgets, and general D2L workshops.
  • The Koehler Center website will provide asynchronous instructional on D2L documentation and resources.

June 2026

  • New D2L tools D2L Accessibility+, D2L Lumi AI suite, and Course Merchant will become available in the LMS.

Summer and Fall 2026

  • The Koehler Center will provide workshops throughout summer and fall 2026.
  • The Koehler Center website will provide asynchronous resources on D2L tools when they become available.
