Provost FAQs re: Reconciliation Day, University Professors, Department Chairs Academy

Dear Academic Affairs faculty and staff,

Together, we have faced many challenges over the past two years. Together, we can celebrate the achievement of our graduating seniors during Spring Commencement, Saturday, May 7, in the Schollmaier Arena, and at the reception Friday evening, May 6, beginning7:00 p.m., in the Campus Commons.

2nd Annual Reconciliation Day
I hope you will attend tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the BLUU Auditorium, to hear important updates on the Race & Reconciliation Initiative and honor the descendants of Charley and Kate Thorp, who will be in attendance. Afterward we will gather for food and fellowship in the Commons.

University Professors
I am pleased to inform you that the Chancellor and Board of Trustees have appointed the Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Dean of the John V. Roach Honors College as University Professors. A University Professor is tenured and appointed at the university level by the chancellor, not by faculty within a particular discipline, to bestow recognition and standing to the deans whose roles are to facilitate cross-campus collaboration with affiliates and partners to support the teaching and research missions for the SIS and Roach Honors College. Other institutions appoint these positions in various ways. I believe this is a first for TCU and expect these two appointments to be maintained for future deans of these two colleges.

Department Chairs Academy, May 10-11
Whether you are a new department chair or have held the position for a while, the Chairs Academy will help you refine your leadership skills and share ideas with your colleagues from other departments. Contact Joanne Green, j.green@tcu, coordinator of the Council of Department of Chairs, for more information.

As we come to the end of the Spring semester, it’s a good time to start planning for Fall. The Koehler Center for Instruction, Innovation, and Engagement has many resources to help you prepare for your courses, including a Semester Start Checklist.

Best wishes for the rest of your week,

Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg
