Provost FAQs 3.16.22 – Academic Excellence Funds, Core Curriculum Survey, Green Honors Chairs

Dear Academic Affairs faculty and staff,

Welcome back to campus. I hope you had a refreshing Spring Break. My message this week centers on two important initiatives and several notable academic events on campus.

Academic Excellence Funds
I am pleased to highlight college funds that support Academic Excellence, including professional development, research, travel and other initiatives to advance your scholarship, education and careers. Some colleges have long offered such support, and now all of the colleges provide these resources. A comprehensive list of Academic Excellence Funds is on my website under Faculty Resources, Academic Excellence Funds, including criteria, amounts and how to apply. This list will be updated annually with new or revised information. If you have suggestions for innovative opportunities in your field—for faculty, staff or students—please bring them to the attention of your dean.

Core Curriculum Survey
The TCU Core Curriculum is more than just the “basics” that students are required to take. The Core Curriculum is essential to the TCU educational experience, a foundation of general education that prepares Horned Frogs for upper-division college courses and lays the groundwork for their future success and fulfillment. The Faculty Senate’s Core Curriculum Review Committee has been working to assess the Core Curriculum, and they are asking for feedback from faculty and advisors. Next Monday I will send out a brief survey and encourage you to respond. Your insight it very important. If you have any questions about the Core Curriculum, I invite you to peruse the newly created website under Faculty Resources at provost.tcu.edu/faculty-resources/core-curriculum.

Cecil H. and Ida Green Honors Chair
As an esteemed university, many honored guests come to TCU for short residencies as Green Honors Chairs to stimulate new ideas, enrich intellectual exchange, and nurture relations with surrounding communities. Several prominent people have recently visited campus, and more are on the way, including Rafaël Rozendaal, a Premier Green Honors Chair presented by the College of Fine Arts and Neeley School of Business, a partnership that showcases the university’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. I urge you take advantage of these unique opportunities, all free, to see people you likely won’t see anywhere else. For more information, check the TCU calendar for Green Honors Chair Program events

Have a great rest of the week,
