Provost FAQs 9.15.22 re FWEM, Media Training, Headshots

Dear Academic Affairs colleagues,

As we build toward TCU’s sesquicentennial in 2023, one of the things I am most excited about is rolling out and testing programs that began as ideas several years ago, but were delayed during the pandemic. Many people – faculty, staff, deans and governance leaders – have put considerable time and thought into making these a reality.

Faculty Workload Equity
You may recall that workload equity was recommended by the Faculty Relations Committee of the Faculty Senate in 2019 to ensure equity within departments, disciplines and academic units. After a delay during 2020, I commissioned the deans to review the recommendation in 2021. Led by Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs Fran Huckaby, they recently designed a university-wide Faculty Workload Equity Model. We will begin testing the model within a few departments this fall. Dr. Huckaby will meet regularly with participating deans and department chairs to refine the process throughout Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. For more information, visit provost.tcu.edu/faculty-workload-equity-model. I thank the deans and Dr. Huckaby for their meticulous and methodical approach, and I look forward to our continued progress.

Media Training for Faculty
I encourage all faculty to take advantage of upcoming workshops hosted by TCU Communications to hone your media relations skills. This is especially helpful when called upon to comment on your research or provide insight into local, national and global affairs in your area of expertise. You can choose from one of three workshops on Sept. 27, 28 and 29. Sign up here: calendar.tcu.edu/event/media_training_101.

Professional Headshot Opportunity
If you need a new or updated professional headshot, TCU Communications has hired a professional photographer for free come-and-go sessions, no RSVP is required. Contact news@tcu.edu with questions.
