Provost FAQs 2.22.22 – QEP, Mask Update, Black History Month

Dear Academic Affairs faculty and staff,

February continues to confound us with spring-like weather followed by freezing cold. Should the campus close for inclement weather, please see the Faculty FAQs for guidelines for academic continuity.

Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) – We Need Your Input
On Monday we sent out a request to all faculty and staff to take a short three-topic survey for the Quality Enhancement Plan. I encourage you to give us your feedback on this five-year initiative required by our accrediting body, the Southern Association for Schools and Colleges Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)).

Masks
For two years, the Campus Readiness Task Force has navigated the changing health and safety environment based on guidance from the CDC, as well as local and regional health and safety experts.  Tarrant County covid numbers are decreasing, as are our campus numbers.  We are closely following the Tarrant County spread rate, as it impacts our protocols. While it is still High as of today, we expect that it could move to Moderate within the next few weeks.  When that happens, TCU will remove the indoor mask mandate for non-classroom spaces. Instructors may determine whether masks will continue to be required in their classrooms. Please clearly convey requirements to your students. Masks will continue to be provided at entrances to buildings and you may also request to keep a box in your classroom space. Cleaning protocols will remain in place.

 Black History Month Events
As we close out Black History Month, I recommend these noteworthy events as we come together to reflect on the past, celebrate accomplishments and look to a better future.

  • Wheeler Parker Jr. will reflect on his experiences as the last living witness to his cousin Emmett Till’s abduction that galvanized the Civil Rights movement in 1955, Feb. 23, 6:00 p.m. (virtual)
  • Walk With Us: TCU Heritage Trail, a one-hour stroll around campus as part of RRI Week, Feb. 25, noon.
  • Let’s Do More: Celebrating TCU Firsts with James Cash ’69, Brandon Kitchin ’18 and current student leaders Leslie Ekpe and Lau’rent Honeycutt, Feb. 28, 7:00 p.m. (virtual)
