Provost FAQs 11/10/21

Dear Colleagues,

It’s hard to believe, but December commencement is almost upon us. I look forward to celebrating with students and parents on December 18.

After a break last week while we met with the Board of Trustees, I bring you the most recent updates for Academic Affairs.

Commencement Regalia

For December 2021 and May 2022, the Provost’s Office will reimburse the full amount for regalia rental instead of the usual half. This is just a small way to thank you for your commitment to our students and encourage you to attend these momentous occasions. For reimbursement, complete a reimbursement form signed by your chair, dean or supervisor, attach your receipt, scan all and email it to Shelia Williams, shelia.williams@tcu.edu.

COVID update

Our case counts continue to be very low, as shown in the attached graph prepared by the TCU Emergency Management Center. Remember, you can get the vaccine, booster and test at the Brown-Lupton Health Center and confirm at tcu.edu/protect-the-purple. Many questions remain about the Executive Order and OSHA order. The Campus Readiness Task Force is studying both to determine TCU’s responsibility for our campus and will update everyone as determinations are made.

Media Training for Faculty

We want the world to know how knowledgeable our faculty members are about current events, research and areas of interest. To help hone your skills in talking with media, TCU Communications is offering media training for new faculty and anyone else interested in the opportunity to raise awareness of the expert insights we have at TCU. The training will be held Friday, November 12, 10:00-11:00 a.m., in the Chambers of the Brown-Lupton University Union. Register by emailing news@tcu.edu.

Convocation Award Winners

I continue to be impressed with our honorees from Convocation and will highlight each one over the coming weeks. Today I share a video featuring the winner of the first university-wide Maryrose Short Award, Mikio Akagi, assistant professor of history and philosophy of science. https://youtu.be/pFdAdODEZ4k

Best regards,

Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg
