Dr. Michael Kruger Named Dean of TCU College of Science & Engineering

Science Engineering Dean Michael Kruger

Dear TCU campus community,

I am pleased to announce that Michael Kruger, Ph.D., has accepted our offer to become the next dean of the College of Science & Engineering. He will join Texas Christian University on May 28, 2021.

I believe Dean Kruger’s experience, background, leadership and innovation will be an advantage for the TCU College of Science & Engineering as it continues its trajectory to being a national leader in research, teaching, and student engagement.

Dr. Kruger has an extensive background in academic administration, scholarly research and the teacher scholar model within the sciences. He joins TCU from the University of South Dakota College of Arts and Sciences, where he has served as dean since 2017, overseeing 17 departments and nine centers and institutes. Previously he was associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Dr. Kruger’s focus as dean will include catalyzing the College of Science & Engineering’s externally funded research, inclusive excellence, student success, and academic excellence.

I would like to thank our search committee for their dedication to the selection process and thank Dr. Matt Chumchal for his excellent leadership of the committee. We had an extremely talented pool of candidates in our nationwide search to replace current Dean Phil Hartman, who will be retiring at the end of the academic year. I especially thank Dean Hartman for his stellar longtime service and dedication to TCU and CSE. In particular, Phil has been an essential advisor to me in the transition of myself and several new deans into the TCU community, and in guiding decisions related to the myriad of challenges since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
