Dr. Angela Thompson Joins TCU as Executive Director of Academic Advising

An expert in higher education advising, Angela Thompson, Ed.D., joins TCU as executive director of academic advising to provide vision, leadership, support and training for TCU’s advising community. She will supervise advising staff for pre-majors and first-year declared majors in the AddRan College of Liberal Arts, and develop a shared vision, strategic plan and measurable productivity outcomes for campus-wide advising. She will oversee the implementation of a new campus-wide advising software platform.

“I am thrilled to join TCU to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement a new campus-wide advising standard,” Dr. Thompson said.

Dr. Thompson previously was with the University of Texas at Dallas since 2007, most recently as director of undergraduate advising for the School of Arts Technology and Emerging Communication. She provided leadership for the development, implementation and quality improvement of the Undergraduate Advising Office through implementing and assessing a strategic plan supporting student retention and attrition.

Dr. Thompson has made several presentations on advising and student success, including “Understanding Advising and Student Success – What Advisors Want Faculty to Know,” “Outside Pressures on Student Success,” and “Standing at the Crossroads: Early Alert Program Advising Students in Need.”

She holds a BA and MA from the University of Texas at Dallas, and EdD from Vanderbilt University.

She will report to Dr. Annorah S. Moorman, associate vice provost for student success.

“I look forward to Dr. Thompson’s vision and expertise as we lead TCU academic advising to the next level in assuring undergraduate student success at TCU,” Dr. Moorman said.
