Update on VP Research, Core Curriculum

Dear colleagues,

I know your thoughts and dreams are already on Spring Break, and deservedly so. Before you go, here’s some news from the Office of the Provost.

Vice Provost for Research Search
We have launched the search for our next Vice Provost for Research, as you may have seen in the Chronicle for Higher Education. The information is on the Provost’s website here: provost.tcu.edu/vice-provost-for-research-job-search. Please feel free to share with qualified candidates. This is a very important role as we look to increase extramural funding and scholarly productivity while contributing to the University’s national research agenda. The ideal candidate will have a track record of building research capacity at an R1 institution or experience aiding a university’s transition from an R2 to an R1. We plan to close the search in April.

Updates to the Core Curriculum
Last fall we made important updates to the Core Curriculum to promote the Core’s purpose and benefits, provide more flexibility, and eliminate redundancies. Click here for more information: provost.tcu.edu/faculty-resources/core-curriculum/updates. These changes impact advising for students who entered TCU in Fall 2024 and moving forward. Workshops were held in March to help you adjust your Core advising. If you missed those or want to revisit anything, contact Louisa Mensah, graduate student assistant for the Core, at louisa.mensah@tcu.edu for recordings of the sessions.

TCU students devote one-third of their academic study to the Core Curriculum. One third! It is the heart and soul of a TCU academic experience. I thank Core Director Theresa Gaul, Provost’s Office Communications Director Elaine Cole, Director of Admission Marketing Jenny Moore, and TCU Marketing and Communications for helping us bring the TCU Core Curriculum to the forefront of the recruitment and admissions process. I know this will help us attract and keep the best Horned Frogs.

Promotion and Tenure Sessions
To help faculty put your best vita forward during the P&T process, we will be hosting sessions this spring featuring deans providing advice and answering questions. We will send more info after Spring Break.

Lunch on me
Forget coffee chats. Let’s do a real meal. I’ll be hosting small lunches for Academic Affairs employees in April. We’re ironing out the details and will send more info after Spring Break.

Speaking of Spring Break…go, have fun, relax, enjoy…and come back refreshed and ready to wrap up this semester in TCU style, with integrity, engagement, community, and excellence.

Go Frogs!
