Nishala Silva Named Assistant Director for Institutional Effectiveness

Welcome Nishala Silva as assistant director for Institutional Effectiveness and director of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) “Finding Ourselves in Community.”  In this role she will lead all aspects of the QEP, including development, delivery, and evaluation of QEP-related faculty professional development. She also will ensure the success of the assessment work with academic programs by coordinating with the academic department, programs, and other academic experiences to maintain and create appropriate and meaningful assessment plans as defined by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). She will provide leadership to engage faculty in initiating and supporting assessment and student learning outcomes, and support and develop programs to improve teaching and learning at TCU.

Silva previously was director of assessment and accreditation for the Neeley School of Business, where she oversaw all accreditation activities, served on the University Assessment Committee, served on the TCU QEP leadership team and implementation team, and assisted faculty in writing learning outcomes, creating curriculum maps, and generating assessment plans and reports. She also collected and analyzed assessment data to continually improve program outcomes. Prior to TCU, Silva was coordinator of assessment, accreditation and data for Montana State University-Billings, assistant director of institutional research, planning and assessment for State University of New York at Fredonia, and part-time faculty of statistics and computer literacy at Rocky Mountain College and Montana State.

She holds IPEDS certificates from the Association of Institutional Research. She earned her BSc in information systems from Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K., MBA in information technology from the University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka, and PhD in Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Jon McGuireAlso welcome Jon McGuire as accreditation coordinator. McGuire joined TCU in the summer. He is a member of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education and also works with the Texas Association for Higher Education Assessment (TxAHEA). Jon is a VALUE Institute Certified Scorer for Written Communication by the American Association of Colleges and Universities. He holds an MS and BS in Sports and Exercise Science from West Texas A&M University.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, communicating, evaluating and continuously improving assessment and accreditation processes for the University.
