TCU Core Curriculum Director Dr. Theresa Gaul and faculty council and committee members develop and maintain the TCU Core Curriculum and assess it regularly, working with the Faculty Senate.

As director of the TCU Core Curriculum, Gaul reports directly to the Provost and works closely with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee to ensure the vitality and integrity of the TCU Core Curriculum. She represents the interests of the TCU Core Curriculum across Academic Affairs and coordinates with Student Affairs.

A recipient of the Deans’ Teaching Award and the Michael R. Ferrari Award for Distinguished University Service and Leadership, Dr. Gaul has led the first comprehensive revision of the Core Curriculum in more than twenty years. Over a five-year period, she oversaw the redesign of curricular competencies and learning outcomes, implemented a new assessment process, and established five faculty committees that support the continuous review, governance, and enhancement of the Core Curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped to thrive in an evolving world.

Dr. Gaul is a scholar of nineteenth-century women’s writing and Native and Indigenous Studies, and currently serves as president of the Society for the Study of American Women Writers (SSAWW). She teaches a range of courses in early American literature. She is past chair of the Department of English and past director of Women and Gender Studies. Read her full bio here.
