Vice Provost Floyd L. Wormley Jr. Named Interim Provost

President Daniel Pullin named Floyd L. Wormley, Jr., Ph.D., currently Vice Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies, to serve as Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs beginning January 1, 2024. He will coordinate efforts with Provost Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg over the next few months during this transition period as she moves on June 1 to assume the presidency at the University of Tampa.

As the university’s chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs provides vision and leadership to support excellence in teaching, learning and research, from the undergraduate to graduate and doctoral levels.

Dr. Wormley joined TCU in June 2019, as associate provost for Research and dean of Graduate Studies and then vice provost. As of January 1, 2024, he also serves TCU as Interim Provost.

“I am honored to work alongside Provost Dahlberg to lead Academic Affairs through this important transition for the university, relying on an incredible team and my experience as vice provost of research and dean of graduate studies to assure continuity, diligence and excellence within Academic Affairs at TCU,” Wormley said.

Dr. Wormley will continue his role of vice provost, supporting research, creative activities, and graduate programs across all disciplines at TCU. In this role, he has magnified the impact of TCU’s research and graduate programs per the university’s mission of teaching and scholarship.

Dr. Wormley is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, a Fulbright Scholar and a Fellow for the American Academy of Microbiology within the American Society for Microbiology. He earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He completed postdoctoral training at Duke University Medical Center.
