Digital and Classroom Safety, Hiring Checklist Update, Provost Sabbatical

Dear Academic Affairs colleagues,

Academic Affairs has initiatives, programs, pilot programs and committee work in progress as we work together to continue to increase TCU’s academic profile and reputation. You can find more information on the Provost’s website. In addition, I will keep deans, chairs and Faculty Senate informed and update the entire Academic Affairs community on a regular basis.

Digital and Classroom Safety

Classroom content, research and campus events can and have become targets on social media and other digital avenues at universities around the world. To provide you with advice on precautions, actions, resources and roles, we are working to finalize a Digital and Social Media Engagement Guide for Faculty. This will be a helpful guide, not a new policy to be enforced, based on insights from the Provost’s Office, TCU Marketing and Communications, General Counsel and TCU Police. We are vetting the guide with deans and plan to have it available to everyone by the end of this month.

Relatedly, to increase the safety of our Horned Frog community, classroom locations, like instructor names, are now hidden on Class Search. The information is available only to those who log in with their TCU ID.

Faculty Hiring Checklist

Per numerous requests, the Faculty Hiring Checklist has been updated to include a question to elicit response to the applicant’s experience and commitment to TCU’s mission to “educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in a global community.” The question is included in 1.H. Interview Questions.

Update on Provost Leadership

As you know, Provost Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg will become president of the University of Tampa beginning June 1, 2024. Beginning March 1, she will be on sabbatical from TCU and I will step into my role as interim provost full-time. I am honored to lead Academic Affairs and look forward to working with all of you.

I thank Provost Dahlberg for her leadership, hard work and dedication to TCU. She has led us through our SACSCOC reaccreditation, opening the Medical School, DEI initiatives, the COVID pandemic and much more. I hope you will join us for a Farewell Reception in the Harrison lobby on March 6, 4:00-5:00 p.m. The Invitation is attached. RSVP is not required.
