Updates on Finding Ourselves in Community (QEP)

Dear Academic Affairs faculty and staff,

We are making great strides in Finding Ourselves in Community (FSC), the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as put forth to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) when they visited campus this spring as part of our 10-year review.

Since October 6, 2021, I have shared with you the many steps taken to develop Finding Ourselves in Community from a student- and faculty-led recommendation to a curricular solution aimed at integrating self-awareness into undergraduate coursework across the curriculum. More information on the QEP can be found on my website here.

We have already begun providing workshops for faculty who want to integrate Finding Ourselves in Community into their courses beginning this fall. We will continue to accept applications for training throughout the next five years. More information about FSC Workshops can be found here.

Our next step is to assemble a QEP Implementation Team comprised of faculty, staff and students, to support implementation and analysis. Dean Frank Hernandez will serve as the lead scholar. In this role, Dean Hernandez will assist the university in implementing the QEP by serving as a key resource in advising the Implementation Team and working closely with David Allen, executive director of institutional effectiveness. Dean Hernandez also will assist with identifying robust assessment tools and other measures to track the continuous improvement of the entire QEP process.

There will be two levels to the QEP Implementation Team. Level I team members will provide general recommendations to the lead scholar and director, and report updates to their constituents. Level II team members, a smaller subcommittee, will work on data analysis to generate recommendations for the Level I team and QEP leadership.

The Implementation Team will have representation from faculty and staff all across campus, all levels and ranks,  as well as Faculty Senate, Student Affairs, and Student Government Association. See the membership to date here.

I thank those who have volunteered for this a five-year commitment that is critical to the success of the university, to ensure that TCU maintains our accreditation and upholds our commitment to an inclusive campus culture. If you are interested in serving on the team, email David Allen at d.e.allen@tcu.edu.

Best regards,

Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
