Provost News and Reminders for Academic Affairs – COVID, FERPA, Syllabus, Open Position

Dear colleagues,

Please read below news and reminders that directly affect you, the faculty and staff of Academic Affairs. I welcome any questions. As always, all of my emails to you are available at your convenience on my website, www.provost.tcu.edu, under THE OFFICE – NEWS & COMMUNICATIONS (communications section), from 2019 forward.

End of the COVID-19 Disaster Declaration
TCU Today announced that the federal health disaster declaration for COVID expired on May 11, 2023. We now return to pre-pandemic practices for employee leave policies and student absences. A review of these guidelines are found here on the Protect the Purple webpage. Faculty and staff may continue to wear masks if they so desire.

Improved process for FERPA
You have received an email from the registrar announcing that there is a now a simple online process for students to grant others access to speak with faculty and academic advisors about their academic or financial information. Make sure you familiarize yourself with this process on my.tcu.edu. The process is outlined here.

Standard syllabus information is now available online
As you create or update your syllabi for Fall 2023, keep in mind that Faculty Senate voted to approve recommendations to streamline the syllabus by putting standardized information online. You can now link to standard TCU information instead of including it in your syllabus, thus significantly shortening your syllabus. Standard information includes student support services, access and accommodation, Title IX, misconduct, holidays, inclement weather, SPOT and more. The information is available on the Koehler Center website here.

Open position in the Office of the Provost
On a personal note, Shelia Williams, who has been my Executive Assistant since Fall 2019, is moving to the Office of the Chancellor and President. While I am very sad to see her go, I know she will provide outstanding support and guidance to that office, as she has mine. If you know of someone who might be interested in this position, please encourage them to apply here: https://jobs.tcu.edu/jobs/executive-assistant-to-the-provost-tcu-main-campus-texas-united-states. I welcome your recommendations.

Best regards,
Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg
