Provost FAQs 10/13/21

Dear Colleagues,

As we look forward to Fall Break and the opportunity to refresh as we head into the last of the Fall semester, I have just a few things to bring to your attention before we adjourn.

Faculty Senate Liaison to the CORE and Assessment

I’m pleased to announce that Faculty Senate has agreed to express in their standing charge that the Academic Excellence Committee will be the liaison to the Director of the Core Curriculum and also to all SACSCOC efforts, including the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). And speaking of QEP, thanks to the members of the QEP Committee for attending a four-hour workshop last Friday to get us started on the right track.

Hybrid Certification Update for Spring 2022

Previously, Hybrid Training was required of all instructors and a stipend was provided as we pivoted to online education during the pandemic. Starting Spring 2022, only full-time instructors of record will be required to complete the certification, within 12 months of their start date. timeframe. Adjuncts starting Spring 2022 onwards will not be required to complete Hybrid Certification unless requested to do so by their Dean or Department Chair. All instructors are welcome to take the opportunity. As we now transition to Hybrid Certification as part of faculty professional development, stipends will no longer be offered. Please refer to the Koehler Center’s Hybrid Certification Training page for guidance on how to begin the certification process.

Promotion and Tenure (P&T) Policy Review

I’m happy to announce a P&T Policy Review Committee led by Richard Gipson, dean of the College of Fine Arts, and Peter Frinchaboy, professor of physics and astronomy, who will determine the committee members. The initial charge of the committee is to review the process and timeline for promotion and tenure and the faculty appeal process, and then make recommendations for improving the efficacy and clarity of these processes. Moving forward, the committee will evaluate criteria for promotion and tenure for consistency across the university. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact Dean Gipson or Dr. Frinchaboy.

Protecting the Purple

I want to thank those of you who are vaccinated for helping keep TCU connected and safe, especially as we head into Fall Break. As shown on the attached chart our case counts are low, so with everyone’s continued dedication we can stay on this positive path.

Best wishes for a restful Fall Break,

Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
