Teaching UNLF and FSC, and Faculty Survey

Dear Academic Affairs Colleagues,

Intro to University Life and Finding Ourselves in Community (TCU’s QEP) are two of TCU’s most engaging student success and inclusive excellence initiatives. Both are excellent ways to reach students from their first year through their last. I encourage you to check out the information and deadlines below, plus look for the opportunity to make your voice heard through a national survey.

Call to Teach Introduction to University Life (UNLF 10211)
I encourage you to consider teaching or facilitating a 50-minute section of UNLF in Fall 2024 for first-year students. Sections are offered throughout the day, Monday through Friday. Instructors receive a stipend of $1,500 since this entails an extra 50 minutes per week over the 15-week semester. Follow the protocol in your unit for teaching an overload. Dr. Zoranna Jones oversees all aspects of UNLF and will help you thoroughly prepare for your role. Please indicate your interest by responding to this brief form by Friday, March 15: https://tcu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2hui7eEsxLZyaRU. More information about UNLF is attached. Contact Dr. Jones at z.jones@tcu.edu with questions.

Call to Participate in Workshops for Finding Ourselves in Community (FSC)
TCU’s five-year Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Finding Ourselves in Community (FSC) is now welcoming faculty to apply for Fall 2024 workshops to amplify your existing course to help TCU students across all majors develop skills for interacting with people who are different from them. Instructors receive a stipend of $2,000: $1,000 for completing the workshops and $1,000 for teaching the FSC-designated course and submitting student artifacts. More information and applications are available here. To date, 30 faculty have completed workshops and incorporated FSC into their courses, with another 19 participating in workshops this spring to teach FSC in their courses this fall. Our goal is to ensure that, over the five years of the QEP, all TCU graduates demonstrate the skills to act as equitable and inclusive members of diverse communities. Contact Nishala Silva, director of the QEP, at nishala.silva@tcu.edu with questions.

Faculty Survey of Student Engagement to Support the QEP
Watch your email to participate in the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement to provide data to assess TCU’s QEP Finding Ourselves in Community. This survey is the faculty version of the National Survey of Student Engagement that goes out to all first-years and seniors. Both surveys, faculty and students, include an Inclusiveness and Engagement with Cultural Diversity module which will provide data to inform our QEP. Both surveys will be administered each spring for the five years of the QEP. The QEP Leadership Team and I look forward to your insights.

I hope you enjoy Spring Break. Whether you are out of the office, in the office, traveling or staying in Fort Worth, take some time to refresh and take care of yourselves,
