TCU Needs Your Feedback on the Quality Enhancement Plan

TCU is in the process of being reaccredited by SACSCOC, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which happens every 10 years. An important part of reaccreditation is a required Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), a focused, well-supported, multi-year initiative to improve specific student learning outcomes.

TCU’s QEP will focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Essential Competency in the core curriculum, a skill set approved by the Student Government Association and Faculty Assembly as: “TCU graduates will demonstrate the skills to communicate and engage with and across diverse communities and identities through an understanding of the dynamics of power, privilege, and difference.”

The QEP Leadership Team has chosen three topics for consideration by faculty, staff, students, alumni and Board of Trustees. With your feedback, the team will choose one topic to carry forward for the next five years.

Each of you – faculty, staff, students, alumni, board members – brings a unique perspective to inform a choice of topic that will benefit all future TCU students. Think about how the three topics below will influence future Horned Frogs’ educational experience and career paths. Then, take a very quick survey to let us know your preference.

Topic #1
Fostering Inclusive Community: Awareness of Self and Others

Students will examine structures of power, the mechanics of privilege, and marginalization from the perspective of their cultural inheritance, and recognize that the values, norms, biases and practices of their social group may be culturally dependent rather than universal.

Topic #2
Communicating and Engaging Across Power, Privilege and Difference

Students will learn to communicate and engage across power, privilege and difference in a variety of personal, professional and social contexts, to promote their personal development and optimize their academic growth as they reflect on their values and beliefs.

Topic #3
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Context (by Major)

This topic reframes DEI as an integral dimension of every major on campus, no longer confined to a specialized subset of disciplines or individuals, to enhance career preparation or advanced education via DEI learning outcomes specific to each TCU major.
