The world is diverse and interconnected. To ensure success in our students’ careers and lives, we expand their world view to encompass diverse cultures, ideas, thoughts, living experiences and more.
TCU Core Curriculum – DEI Essential Competency
The addition of DEI Essential Competency enriches TCU’s Core Curriculum by encouraging faculty to create new courses or modify existing courses with learning objectives related to DEI. This overlay will encourage our students to learn about, encounter and explore identities and communities that are new to them, and to engage critically with the dynamics of difference and power that shape their lives.
TCU offers many programs and courses that increase students’ knowledge of human diversity and emphasize broader perspectives.
Introduction to University Life
Introduction to University Life is a student success seminar for incoming TCU students that helps them cultivate habits of learning and academic achievement. A key component of the seminar is learning and living in diverse communities.
This academic scholarship program draws the best and brightest historically underrepresented students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
Peer 2 Peer Tutoring
In Fall 2020, the Provost funded this new program to train 39 exceptional TCU students to be Peer Tutors during Spring 2021, including evening and weekend hours. The Peer Tutors completed 10 hours of Level 1 training in accordance with the College Reading and Learning Association. Six Meta-Tutors completed an extra 10 hours of Level 2 training to provide additional support in study strategies, study skills, time management and goal setting.
